I’m Still Here…

I saw my reflection in a shop window, suddenly 20 years had passed,

I'm getting older, I have children that breathe the air that I wanted to give them,

The grey hair speaks volumes, I thought I was full of youth and it would always last,

Where's my shoulder? Being a father is who I am, being a loving dad was my quest.

I can still remember my little angels falling asleep, upon my beating chest,

I was frightened of the man I was supposed to be,

Shailyn seen me as a stranger at first, but I gained her love, trust and herself,

Then Rian came along, two daughters and a family, such a dream.

My children are getting older, I didn't realise I was getting older too,

Tears fill up, I'm so proud, hard work comes from the walks to school,

Hand in hand, they put their arms out for crossing the roads,

With my babies, no matter how old, I'll never feel that I'm alone.

I know living with your dad can sometimes be hard, as I'm not woman enough,

Please sweethearts, I try, then I try again, I've always been there, I'm not giving up,

Now you're grown up, my tired eyes still see you, my beating heart still feels yours,

Whenever you think you can't take anymore, come to me and let your heart pour.

Your dad is here,

I'm here,

I've lived a mother and father,

But I'm still your lonely shoulder,

When tears flow,

As relationships go,

If you feel that you're alone,

I'm still here,

Even though I'm that old man,

There's still love,

In that shop window...

Founded in 2020

Success is a journey not a destination and my journey on this exciting adventure has begun. Poetry, ignites in me a desire to learn, capturing my imagination and enhancing my creativity. The way in which words convey a message and create imagery inspires me. From an early age, I have written poetry and short stories to express myself. At times, I have been overwhelmed with emotion and have channelled this through my writing, allowing relief and escapism.

As a proud, single parent of two daughters, I strive to inspire and ignite others’ creativity. I am driven by the desire to be successful in a subject that makes me happy. I crave a deeper knowledge and have a willingness to share and understand the wonders of language and literature.

I have found it highly rewarding to have a positive impact on a person’s life, sharing a mutual understanding and respect for one another.

As the administrator for a social poetry group (Northern Poetry), I am confronted with various situations and opportunities, which instil respect and reinforce my belief that literature reflects the individual. I have taken part in and won competitions for my writing, some of my poetry illustrating and promoting awareness in mental health has been exhibited in an art gallery. Whilst working and studying I have maintained an enthusiasm to independently study and improve my own writing.

I am intrigued by the power and emotional sway poetry can have and how society is influenced by it. Poetry and English language directed my learning to Lord Byron, his revolutionary actions and his writing. Also I have been inspired by an extraordinarily strong female writer, Mary Shelley, how she conformed to society and the measures she took to be heard. I feel, that it is my time to make a difference in a positive way through my actions and words.

In conclusion, success is my journey to fulfil my dream. It began by finding self-belief through my writing, having the determination to apply myself and reach my goals. I believe that with my passion and drive anything is possible!
