Sleep With Me…
Hold my hand tonight and sleep with me,
Close your eyes, let's dream one last dream,
We'll fade into the night, in loving arms,
Don't shed a tear, love is ours, it's just you and me,
On bended knee, I said those very special words, Mary, will you marry me?
I was shaking and out of breath, I couldn't believe it was a yes!
To see you walking down the aisle, I married my best friend,
With that ring on your finger, "You can kiss the bride" I felt so blessed.
Hold my hand tonight and sleep with me,
Close your eyes, let's dream one last dream,
We'll fade into the night, in loving arms,
Don't shed a tear, love is ours, it's just you and me.
I remember those days when we had nothing, sitting by the coal fire,
In my heart I had everything, I had you, baby on the way, life was brighter,
Rocking you to sleep, feeling our son, wanting to be in our world,
We had our ups and downs, but the love from our child made it work.
We forgave and forgot,
We won, then we lost,
For each other, day by day,
Our love never stopped.
We shared our dark moments when the nightmare came,
Mathew lost his strength to live, he gave into the horrendous pain,
We couldn't live one more day, but yet together we visited his grave,
Even now, old and grey we still place the flowers next to his name.
Darling Mary,
To you, I have to apologize, for the cancer I have inside,
I didn't want you to see my vacant eyes and say goodbye,
I smell that coal fire once more and Mathew is nigh,
I will say hello for you and explain, that it's just not your time.
So please, I feel myself slipping away,
I'm closing my eyes, for no more pain,
Come close, lay with me,
Hold my hand tonight and sleep with me,
Close your eyes, let's dream one last dream,
We'll fade into the night, in loving arms,
Don't shed a tear, love is ours, it's just you and me...
